Xian ... Home to the Terracotta Warriors

Xian's not only known for the Terracotta Warriors, but it's meant to be one of
the central party places of China, so we thought it would be the perfect place to celebrate new year. After an over night train of 'sleeping' on the floor, as we had 3 seats between 6 of us, we had a wonder around Xian, stopping of at the Starbucks, Dunken Donuts and other Western favourites ... the first proper Western food since arriving in China was very exciting. After getting our Western fix, we all hopped on a bus to the famous Terracotta Warriors.
After wondering from building to building, through pictures of statues and copies of statues, we found that the majority of the statues were away for renovations, but we eventually made it to the hall where the rest were all being kept. The numbers of the Warriors were impressive, filling a hall about the size of 2 football pitches, however the desks and cabinets that were among them in the renovation areas took away from it a bit.
A quick stop of dumplings and it was time to get ready for new year. After me Tom and Bethan getting dropped of in the wrong place, we got to the club 15 minutes to go before the bells to find there was no room to move inside. We had our 'happy new year!'s, then by 12.30 we were out trying to find somewhere else. A few of us went back as it emptied out a bit, but we were still back by around 2.00, earliest new year in a while, not quite what we expected from one of the party capitols, but oh well. New years day was rather relaxed, sampling Xian's street food stalls which were very different to the food in Xinjiang, and almost as good.
